Question MarkThe Opportunities: The Canadian School Volunteer Network web site lists and describes 17 areas of need in which volunteers could be helpful in a school. Each area clearly and concisely identifies the way a volunteer benefits the school program and examples of specific activities that are available.

HOW DO YOU USE IT ?

WHEN DO YOU USE IT?

Question MarkUse this site when inviting parents to volunteer in the school. It is also helpful when encouraging teachers to work with parents by sharing specific needs with them.

WHY DO YOU USE IT?

Question MarkThis information is helpful because parents often are unaware of the need and opportunity to contribute. They sometimes assume that they are not really needed or wanted in the school. Sometimes staff assumes the needs are obvious.

WHO DO YOU INVOLVE?

Question MarkUse this information with parents, parent organizations and staff.

ACTIVITY

  1. Identify 5 areas of need where you could contribute your skills to your child's school.
  2. Talk with a teacher/administrator/staff member at your child's school about how you might be helpful.
